IFI's new Innovation & Multimedia department has chosen new French films for the screenings at Habitat Film Club. These films reflect the range of contemporary French cinema which goes beyond comedy to social drama to encompass the supernatural. All of the above highly-select films promise narrative and visual delights – not least among them is “Cowboys,” partially shot in India.

Bombay, India holds a vista of internationalism in terms of its history in architecture and cinema. The Lumiere Brothers had theirs movies shown at the Watson Hotel, a few meters away from Clark House Initiative. This screening by a man called Maurice Sestier in 1896 gave the first impetus to cinema in the city and led to the foundation of Bollywood.

The audiovisual section of the Cultural services is in charge of developing the Indo-French cooperation in the fields of cinema, Television and radio.

It supports the efforts of professionals of both sides and promotes French cinema in India and Indian cinema in France by organising or participating to Film Festivals and professional showcases. It informs the general Indian public about French cinema and gives the French players an overview of the Indian market and its evolution.

French cinema is very successful in the cultural network of India and our Embassy has a film library with a good collection of French cinema in 35-MM & DVD format. The films from this library are made available for non commercial screenings all over India.
