About The Long Weekend of LiteratureS

The Long Night of LiteratureS is now back in an all-new digital avatar as the Long Weekend of LiteratureS, 2021. Scheduled from 22nd October–23rd October 2021 from 3:00 PM-9:00 PM (IST; both days) with the theme of ‘Belonging: Beyond Borders’, the festival promises to be a unique platform with the coming together of authors from 11 European countries and India. It will feature online (Zoom-based) panel discussions, quizzes, and audience interaction sessions focused on themes of diversity and belonging.

Literary conversations focused on topics of belonging and diversity have perhaps never been more important. Over the years, the Long Night of LiteratureS brought together fascinating writers and artists from a range of participating European countries to audiences in India for an immersive multicultural literary experience. This year, the LWeL aims to connect the literary worlds of Europe and India through curating important conversations vital to our times.

Featuring authors

This year’s edition will feature all the European authors –– Eva Baltasar (Spain), Tiffany Tavernier (France), Kübra Gümüsay (Germany),  X (Christoph) Schneeberger (Switzerland), Lydia Mischkulnig (Austria), Wojciech Jagielski (Poland), Ana Filomena Amaral (Portugal), Dániel Levente Pál (Hungary), Micheál Ó Conghaile (Ireland), Merete Pryds Helle (Denmark), Lorenza Pieri (Italy) –– in interactive reading sessions with the audience in our ‘Chai Pakoda Addas’. Some of the authors will also be a part of some of the panel discussions –– themed around writing diverse historical narratives, women and technology, identity and climate change, gender performativity and translation, publishing and screenwriting among others –– along with Òscar Pujol, Christine Cornet, Indian authors and publishers such as Nilanjana Roy, Aanchal Malhotra, Easterine Kire, Rheea Rodrigues Mukherjee, Kannan Sundaram, Vasudhendra, Neeta Gupta and Kareem Khubchandani.

Additionally, to give the audience the best immersive experience possible during these restrictive pandemic times, we are organizing a Europe-India pen pal network for festival participants, quizzes based on all things Europe (ongoing on @thehouseofbelongg ‘s Instagram), and an open mic session and a make-your-own un-gendered dictionary session at the festival.
