Maya Kamaty is part of a new generation of artists redefining maloya, the traditional song form of La Réunion. Behind the sweetness of her voice lies a sharp lyricism, denouncing jealousy, malice, and gratuitous sabotage—both on her island in the Indian Ocean and across social networks. While her music follows its own adventurous path, far from the routes marked by her famous father, her poetry affirms the urgent need to preserve the traditions of her island, particularly the fighting spirit embodied in maloya.
She toured India with her EP SOVAZ, which she describes as “Kreol Urban Pop.” With this new work, she forges yet another unique path in today’s musical landscape, blending heritage with contemporary energy.
