Grand Inauguration of the New French School in Chennai

The Lycée Français International de Chennai (LFIC), one of the four French schools in India, proudly celebrated its Grand Inauguration ceremony on Friday, November 29, 2024.

This significant event was honoured by the presence of Ms. Sophie Primas, Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and French Nationals Abroad, underscoring the event’s importance in strengthening the Indo-French partnership. Also in attendance were His Excellency Mr. Thierry Mathou, Ambassador of France to India, the Hon’ble Mayor of Chennai, Ms. Priya Rajan, and other diplomatic and government officials. The inauguration marked the culmination of months of dedication by the LFIC team and its partners, who worked tirelessly to establish a high-quality, bilingual, and multicultural French school in Chennai, open to all.

LFIC officially welcomed its first students in September 2024, offering French national education at an accessible cost to French, foreign, and Indian families. The school is hosted within JS Global School, a respected Indian institution in Chennai, reflecting LFIC’s commitment to fostering multicultural exchanges that enhance the educational journey of each student.

LFIC aims to go beyond the traditional framework of international schools, often perceived as isolated from local culture. Instead, it integrates students into the vibrant cultural fabric of Chennai, creating meaningful connections and opportunities for shared learning. The Grand Inauguration on November 29 was a celebration of the enduring partnership between French and Indian communities, symbolizing a commitment to collaborative education and cultural exchange.

The Lycée Français International de Chennai (LFIC) is one of four French schools in India, offering a distinctive educational experience that blends French academic excellence with Indian cultural richness. LFIC is an initiative of the French Learnings Initiative (Trust), supported by the French Institute in India, the cultural wing of the Embassy of France in India, and the Consulate General of France in Pondicherry and Chennai.
