By collaborating with Indian female contemporary dancers and choreographers, as well as children, I wished to create a vibrant laboratory for artistic exchange and creation, dedicated to exploring the expressions of anger.
Stéphanie Janaina, a Franco-Mexican dancer and choreographer with a background in dance, visual arts, cinema, and gender studies, focuses her research on the exploration of fragility, challenging its pejorative feminization. As a member of the group ¡miércoles! with Chilean musician Nicolás Jaar and part of the Collectif V.I.D.D.A., she has created works like the trilogy “Des pas si présent”, exploring themes of sound and language. During her residency in Chennai, she delved into the manifestation of anger in women and children through choreography, conducting interviews with Indian women to shape an upcoming choreographic documentary. She also collaborated with Kalkidai magazine on an article for their “Healing Sexual and Other Violence in the Context of Art” edition and published “Dancing the Uncomfortable” at the International Theatre Festival of Kerala in February 2024. Additionally, she worked with photographer Sharan Devkar Shankar on a photo series encapsulating the concepts of respect and anger through the phrase, "Be fire so no one can touch you.
