For once in my life as a crime story author, I’m going to write a very dark book. And because of that, I know that “Python” will be very demanding. So my office is maybe a little bit too small to shelter such complex writing.
Sébastien Gendron, a French writer in his early fifties, is renowned for his crime novels and young adult literature, which allow him to delve into themes of power, conflict, and occasional wonder. His characters often grapple with staying afloat, sometimes humorously, sometimes tragically. During his residency in Bangalore, Gendron completed Python, the second book in a triptych f published by Gallimard. He also participated in the Lekhana Literary Festival organised by Sangam House at Alliance Française Bangalore. He led 3 sessions, engaging with students and sharing his insights as a writer on the topic of Le Roman Noir, a separate panel for French-speaking audiences on Écrire La Crise: Littérature Sociale and a group panel on the topic of Migration. At the Bangalore Literature Festival, he contributed to a collaborative session titled Neverwhere: A Journey into Speculative Realms. Currently in the final stages of revision, Python is set for publication in March 2025. Additionally, he began work on a new novella, In Gloria Lux, which he plans to continue. A return to India for further writing is already part of his plans.
