2023 - 2024

Elsa Mroziewicz

My project on birds or the universal forest is at the intersection of the arts and knowledge, to raise awareness of eco-systems in a global way, through the poetic guiding thread of birds. It's a multi-format project that includes illustration, 2D animation, graphic novel and sound.

Elsa Mroziewicz is a multidisciplinary artist—illustrator, pop-up engineer, director, and author—whose works invite audiences into narrative, dreamlike, and poetic worlds with mythological influences, often blurring the line between reality and fiction. She collaborates on transmedia projects like Arbres-Mondes (Worlds-Trees) and is currently working with author Cécile Palusinski on augmented sound frescoes in AR, including Floating Cities, The Universal Forest, and Flying High, with the aim of raising awareness of ecological issues. During her residency with MAD Salon + Labs in India from July to August 2024, Elsa advanced the Floating Cities project, developing a new fresco panel inspired by the city of Bangalore and its space innovations. As part of her residency, she conducted a series of workshops, including a pop-up book workshop for children undergoing treatment at Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital, creative workshops at Rbanms Educational Charities School and the National Science Gallery in Bangalore, and a collaborative session at Alliance Française in Pune. Additionally, she participated in the Bangalore Literary Festival, leading a roundtable on book design and a presentation on pop-up books for children. Elsa’s work aims to inspire reflection and action on environmental challenges, with plans to showcase the project at Oceans 2025 and other cultural venues. During the summer of 2024, she came back to India with her co-author Cécile Palusinki to study floating gardens and aquaculture in Kerala’s Kuttanad region.
