Novelist
My novels often feature characters shaped by their surroundings. The plot revolves around a main character who disappears. While he fades away, he develops an intense psychic life, close to dreams. I plan to immerse myself in Varanasi, taking notes on my experiences to weave them into fiction, making them part of the narrative rather than personal memories.
Adrien Lafille, born in the Parisian suburbs, published his first novel, “Milieu”, in 2021 and his second, “La transparence”, in 2022, both published by Vanloo. His third novel, “Le feu extérieur”, was released in 2024 by Corti. Lafille explores the boundaries between fiction and non-fiction through various forms. He visited Varanasi in 2011 after he discovered the book of photography “End Time City” by American photographer Michael Ackerman. This time, he plans to write a novel about a disappearing character whose existence paradoxically emerges through the writing process, influenced by the city's mist, architecture and peculiar rhythm.
